Coaching history
Gustavo played at NCAA Division I Long Island University. He played professional soccer for the Puerto Rican National Team during a hiatus from school. After he finished playing for Long Island, he was made Assistant Coach. He has played an important role at DUSC since 2003, including serving as Head Coach for many of the girls and boys travel teams (ODP, CJSL Select, Super Y). His wealth of experience has made him uniquely qualified to oversee coaching for the DUSC Academy Program.

Coaching philosophy

To educate and prepare children for life. This is a long-term player development process, where at early stages (6–14 years old) success should not be measured by wins or losses. I strongly believe the emphasis should be on building a strong technical foundation and nurturing a love/passion for the game by creating an appropriate training environment that is both fun and challenging for the children. A place where teamwork, commitment, respect and fair play will be the key factors to achieve success of the players as a “whole person”, on and off the field.

A good coach is one who helps his players maximize or discover their potential. That is his principal function.
